Information: China is made of a huge variety of landscapes, with plateaux and mountains in the west, and plains in the east. The main rivers flow from west to east, including the Yangtze, the Yellow River (centre east), the Love River (northeast), some flow to the south (Pearl River, Mekong, Brahmapoutre...). Most of these rivers end in the China Sea. Politically, two different states pretend to be sovereign over China. What is commonly called Continental China is governed by the People's Republic of China, founded by the Communist leader Mao Zedong in 1949 in Beijing, after a military victory that sent back to Taiwan the Nationalist leader Tchang Kaï-chek and the government of the Republic of China, founded in 1912 by Sun Yat-sen on what was left from the Chinese Empire of the Qing dynasty.
