Information: Finland is a Northern Europe country, member of the European Union and of the Euro zone. It shares common borders with Russia on the east, Sweden on the northwest and Norway on the north. The official languages are Finnish and Swedish. Finland has thousands of lakes and islands (187 888 lakes and 179 584 islands). One of these lakes, the Saimaa, is the fifth largest of Europe. The Finnish landscape is flat in the southwest and in the coastal plains, hilly in the centre and in the east. Lapland is sometimes rocky, but most of it is formed of large plains.
