Information: Macau (Aomen in Mandarin) is a town and special administrative region in China enjoying a special status. It is located at 70 km to the southwest of Hong Kong and at 145 km from Guangzhou. The estuary of the Pearl River separates it from Hong Kong (at 65 km). Just in front of Macau, on the mainland, is the Zuhai special economic zone, which was created at the end of the eighties to promote economic development, just like Hong Kong. Macau consists of a peninsula and of the isles of Taipa and Coloane. Total area is 23.5 km², including 9 km² for the peninsula.
