Information: The Republic of Macedonia is located in southeast Europe, in the Balkan peninsula. It is bordered by Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia (Serbia and Montenegro) and Albania. Macedonia comes from the division of former Yugoslavia. In 1992, it chose a flag bearing the star of Vergina, a symbol associated to Alexander the Great. Geographically, 38% of the area and 44% of the population consists of the region known as Macedonia, the rest being divided between Greece (around half of the total) and Bulgaria (less than a tenth.
