Information: Malta (Repubblika ta' Malta, Republic of Malta) is an island (capital: Valetta), located in the Mediterranean Sea 100 km south of Sicily, 300 km east of Tunisia and 350 km north of Libya. Many civilizations have sought to control this strategically located island throughout history. Maltese territory is an archipelago located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, at the limit between the western Mediterranean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, and between North Africa (Cape Bon in Tunisia) and southern Europe (Sicily in Italy). Only the three main islands are inhabited: Malta, Gozo, and Comino (Kemmuna). The highest point is Ta'Dmejrek on the isle of Malta (253 m). Local climate is Mediterranean.
