It consists of the Republic of Serbia and of the Republic of Montenegro, which gives it an access to the Adriatic Sea. It is bordered by Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Croatia And Bosnia and Herzegovina. As it forms a federation or a confederation, it succeeds to the former Republic of Yugoslavia. Serbia and Montenegro offers varied landscapes. To the north, we can find the great Pannonian plain of Vojvodina, the agricultural warehouse of the country, separated from the rest of the country by the Sava river and Danube. Further south, we can find region of low mountains, Sumadija and Podrinje, regions crossed respectively by the Drina river and the Morava river. To the east are the regions of Stig, Negotinska Krajina and to the southeast, the Južna Srbija (South Serbia), more mountainous regions.
