Information: Sweden (Sverige in Swedish) is a Scandinavian country. Its capital is Stockholm and its inhabitants are called the Swedes. They speak Swedish. Finnish and Sami are also spoken, mainly in the north of the country. Regional variations are frequent. Sweden is bordered by Norway to the west and by Finland to the east. To the south, Denmark is only 4 km away. To the north of Sweden is an area called Lapland or Sápmi by its inhabitants, the Samis, who were the first to live in northern Scandinavia. Sweden is member of the European Union, but not of the euro zone. The climate is relatively temperate, despite its northern situation, thanks to the Gulf Stream. In the south of the country, leafy woods are more abundant than in the north, where there is more softwood.
