Chad is a basin surrounded by mountains and plateaus. To the north, the Tibesti massif reaches high altitude (3415 m at the volcano Emi Koussi). To the east, the Ouaddaï plateau culminates at 1360 m. The lowest part (280 m) consists of the Lake Chad. The two major rivers are the Chari, coming from the Lake Chad, and its tributary the Logone river. Climate is tropical in the south, with savannah and clear forests. The central area has a Sahelian type, with steppe. The north has a Saharian climate and is more arid. |
